Dreaming of an eclipse : what can this symbol evoke?

An eclipse rests on a coincidence of perspective : the moon is tiny beside the sun, and it need only be near to cover it entirely. It is not a matter of size, it is a matter of position.

A darkening with a term

An eclipse lasts a few minutes, and astronomers know centuries in advance when it will begin and end. No other darkening is so predictable or so brief.

That distinguishes this symbol from other figures of night. The dream speaks not of a loss but of a passage : what is masked is not harmed, it will become visible again, and that depends on nobody.

What to remember is what you were doing during it. Waiting, panicking, or making use of the darkness tell three different relations to an interruption you knew, within the dream, would cease.
