What allows one to rise

The body's whole weight passes through the thighs, and it is by them that one rises from a chair, climbs a stair, gets back up after a fall. No other muscle has that role.

Dreams often use this figure for the capacity to resume. Not the will, which is an intention, but the force actually available to get up : the kind lacking after a long ordeal and returning without one knowing how.

The question it poses is concrete : do you still have enough to stand up again? Those who dream of weak or heavy thighs often describe a tiredness they had not measured.

The seat of descent

Several ancient texts have children born "of the thigh" of a father, and oaths were sworn with a hand placed on the thigh of the one being sworn to. The word then designated what is transmitted by blood.

Dreams sometimes use this dimension, and it deserves attention when the thigh appears in a family context. What comes to you from your parents, the strength you hold from them, what you transmit in turn : lineage is said in this muscle rather than in the heart.

What to remember is the presence of other figures. A thigh seen alone points to your own strength ; a thigh within a family scene points to what circulates between generations.

What the body allows changes the reading

A psychological reading, not a ready-made box

Depth psychology recalls that the dreamed body rarely speaks of medicine : it borrows its images from what it knows how to do. The thigh, because it carries and raises, lends itself to questions of resource and resumption. It also notes that such dreams may reflect a real tiredness felt on waking. Other readings retain the ancient use of the word to designate lineage.
