Dreaming of a city : what can this symbol mean?

A plan one did not draw

To walk in a city is to follow a layout one did not choose : streets decide the possible routes, squares the encounters, walls what will not be seen. • A deserted city, empty of people — frequently reflects a framework that persists while what animated it has gone.

A psychological reading, not a ready-made box

Analytical psychology reads the dreamed city as a figure of the internalised collective : the whole of the rules, habits and routes one follows without having decided them. It therefore attends to your ease in moving through it. Other approaches will see a real place, a memory, a concern about a move.
