The sheep carries a dual symbolism in collective imagination : in biblical tradition, it embodies innocence and sacrifice, "the Lamb of God" representing offered purity. But the expression "following like sheep" also reveals a more critical reading : that of an individual following the group without questioning, out of comfort or fear of standing out.
