Dreaming of yellow : what can this colour mean?

Gold and sulphur : a colour that splits in two

In the alchemical texts Jung comments on at length, yellow holds an unstable place. It announces the citrinitas, the phase in which the work brightens and nears gold — yet it is also the colour of sulphur, a volatile, corrosive principle associated with what catches fire too quickly. The same hue names accomplishment and poison. This double belonging is no scholarly curiosity : it matches what dreamers report. The yellow of their dreams is rarely neutral : it warms or it unsettles, and that reaction should be noted before any interpretation.

The shade matters more than the colour

A psychological reading, not a ready-made box

Analytical psychology readily associates yellow with the intuitive function and with the flash of understanding — what is grasped at once, without demonstration. Other approaches stress its social charge : yellow long served to mark, to distinguish, to exclude, and that cultural ground still works on our images. These frameworks can illuminate, but none replaces what the dream says, precisely, to the person who lived it.

No dictionary of symbols, however complete, can say with certainty what your dream of yellow means.
