What attack multiplies

Heracles's problem is not strength : he strikes very well, and that is precisely what worsens the situation. The more effective he is, the more the monster gains — the method itself feeds what it means to destroy.

Dreams often use this structure for difficulties that effort increases. An anxiety fought and growing, a conflict one wants to close and which branches out, a reputation one tries to correct and installs by denying it. Nothing is done badly : the action is the problem.

The question it poses is hard to admit : is what you have been fighting for months growing because of your fight? Those who dream of hydras are rarely passive — they are exhausted.

The solution is not in the blow

Heracles prevails only by ceasing to do what he was doing : a second figure cauterises each wound at once, and the regrowth stops. He does not strike better — he adds something else, and he does not do it alone.

That detail is the myth's most useful, and it is almost always forgotten. The way out came not from more strength nor better technique, but from a change in the nature of the action, and from help. Heracles alone would have lost.

What to remember is therefore what altered the scene in your dream. Someone intervening, a different gesture, a stop : that is where the dream indicates the exit, never in the intensity of the fight.

What the creature does changes the reading

A psychological reading, not a ready-made box

Depth psychology takes an interest in contents that struggle reinforces, noting they are frequent : the more a person fights a thought, the more it occupies them. It draws a rule of method from this — before this kind of difficulty, increasing effort is exactly the wrong answer. Other readings retain the myth's end, where victory comes from a change of gesture and outside help, not from more strength.
