Dreaming of a kingfisher : what can this symbol evoke?

It waits a long time, motionless, then dives in one line and surfaces with a fish. That movement holds the whole symbol : water figures what lives beneath consciousness, the bird belongs to the air and to overview, and it alone makes the round trip.

The myth tells that Alcyone, having lost her husband at sea, was changed into a bird alongside him, and that the gods suspended the storms for a few days in midwinter so she could brood upon the waves. Hence the phrase : an interval of calm at the heart of the harsh season.

This motif illuminates one precise dream form — the one where the bird appears while everything around remains agitated. It does not announce the end of the storm, and that matters : it signals a lull, brief, given rather than won, during which something fragile can be brought to term.

The question then becomes very concrete : what are you waiting for, to use the respite you have? Such intervals are often recognised only afterwards, once they have passed.

What the bird does changes the reading

• Seeing it dive and surface with prey — an intuition that succeeded, an understanding arriving at once.

The kingfisher belongs to the second family, which is why it often accompanies periods when something is surfacing.
